日本ラクロス協会 国際部長 斎藤珠恵
平成１０年１月２０日から３月１９日までの約２ヵ月、総務庁主催による
国際交流事業、「第１０回世界青年の船」が行われた。
参加国は日本を含む１４ヵ国．約３００人の２０歳代の参加青年が船での
共同生活を営んだ。
"Ship for World Youth" is an international exchange program coordinated
by the Japanese government. From January 20 to March 19, a group of 300
youths from 14 different countries lived together on a cruise ship to visit
around the world and to experience what a read "international understanding"
is all about.
西回りの航路をとった「第１０回世界青年の船」の参加国は、インド，スリ
ランカ，ケニヤ，タンザニア，南アフリカ，バーレーン，オマーン，ヨルダ
ン，エジプト，アラブ首長国連邦，ギリシャ，スウェーデン，イギリス，そ
して日本。イギリスとスウェーデンを除く国々では，まだ，ラクロスは知ら
れていない。その船に、ソフトラクロス一式を持ち込んで船上ラクロスを実
現させた。
The 10th Ship of World Youth went on a westbound cruise, andthe participating
countries were India, Sri Lanka, Kenya,Tanzania, South Africa, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Greece, Sweden, United Kingdom, and Japan.All but UK and Sweden are new to lacrosse, and in order to promote
lacrosse to more countries, a set of lacrosse equipment was brought on board.
初めて握るスティックに，初めて見るゴール。
マッチョなアフリカ勢などは、ルールは無視して
ボールを取るや否やがんがんゴール目指して突き
進む。６個持参したボールの内、５個があっと言
う間に海の藻屑となって消えてしまった程のパワ
ー溢れるゲーム展開となったが、インド洋に浮か
ぶ船のスポーツデッキで、楽しいひと時を過ごす
ことが出来た。
The lacrosse sticks that they have never seen, and an unusual looking goals...
The muscular Africans would dash to the goal as soon as they get hold of a ball,
and no one even cared about the rules! What was supposed to be a soft-lacrosse
turned out to be a harsh-lacrosse, but everyone enjoyed playing this new game
in the middle of the Indian Ocean. ...and no one knows where the five lacrosse
disappeared in the middle of the sea.
参加者の中には，ユースワーカーや学校の先生、そして地元の国際交流の関
係の仕事をしている人も多く、特にエジプト，タンザニア，ギリシャのメン
バーは、「是非，ラクロスを自分の国でもやってみたい」と元気な笑顔を見
せてくれた。
There were many youth workers and school teachers on the ship,and especially
those participants from Egypt, Tanzania, and Greece were anxious to play the
game in their own countries.
近い将来、海外旅行を計画している人。ラクロスを新しい国に普及させたい
という意欲に燃えている人。連絡をお待ちしています。

斎藤さんは、今回のイベントは個人的に参加されましたが、その様な場に
おいても、ラクロスを通して（ネタ？）にして、多くの友人を得ることが
できたと思います。こんなことにもラクロスって使えるんだ、という良い
例ですね。地道な努力がラクロスの為、それ以上に自分自身の為になるので
はないかと思います。
斎藤さんが書いているように、国際部では、国際交流に興味のある人を募集
しています。
